Mark Ronson gives fan a sneak peek of three new tracks

A journalist who happens to be a loyal Duran Duran fan got more than he bargained for while interviewing Mark Ronson for a local magazine in Paris. Much to his surprise, Ronson took out his iPod and played a few snippets from the thirteenth Duran Duran album, which he is producing. The album is slated for release early next year and reportedly has not been mixed yet.

Below is the un-edited, firsthand report sent to Gimme a Wristband.

“Mark told me : ho, i have something who’s gonna make you happy, and he tooke his iPod to plug in in the hifi system of the bar…

I believed he wanted to make me hear record collection but it was Duran … And first i cannot believe it !

At the first snippet i instantly thought : oh my god ! He really successful to re-find the sound of first record !

For me it remains me something of 7 and the ragged tiger. With a dirty synth sound and a chorus who made something like “love is all” who made me think about “We Need You” … I also thought about a “Faith in this Colour” spirit …

The second snippet made me think about something between Rio and friends of mine . In fact it was like a title from the Rio album, because of the speedy bass line but more darker, more dirty, more rock ‘n roll !

And when i go outside he was listening another one really rock also, but he told me it was just a demo.

In fact what i heard really sounds like something between Rio and 7 + a “brit pop” touch like what the Kaiser Chiefs can do …

It was like Ronson have find some old demo and that he incorporate a more rock n roll spirit. More dirty, more strong !

I was quite afraid to see how it sounds like the first 3 … Just the voice of Simon is more mature. And the production is less “aseptized” than the 3 first albums …

I didn’t really identify a chorus in what i listen and so i didn’t identify a potential single … It was too short !

And there was also strong guitar and he told me that it was DOM !

Just about 2.30 mn for 2,5 songs. It’s pretty small to make an idea of the album but it was really exciting…

Mark told it Will be maybe twelve songs on the LP, and didn’t want to tell me the titles of what he let me hear … But the one with the line “love is all” remain me something i read on a fan forum …

    - Tof”

From the sound of this admittedly very subjective and brief report of just a few songs, Duran Duran fans have much to look forward to.

  • What an exciting exclusive!!! So what MR and DD have kept on saying is true. I cannot really wait for new album. Thank you, Kitty.

  • Water! I need water! My mouth is dry, I’m short of breath, I have goosebumps and I think I just had an orgasm! I am SO insanely jealous right now! I want to hear it all. Oh god, the idea of that raw sound with more of a rock guitar element and “dirty synth[s]” is making me tremble all over! I actually did get goosebumps the second I read Faith in This Colour. I love the FEEL of that song so much.

  • all these teasers make me just want to scream!!! Its exciting but frustrating that we are yet to hear it and then we hear from Nick. Ooh………..**fans herself**

  • That makes me pretty darn happy. Rio is one of those iconic masterpieces, and, of course, the first album is one I could listen to at any time…any time. To hear that Mark has found a way to meld Duran’s early sounds with some rockin’ out newer sounds makes me salivate for it. NOW. Again, I say, I’m pretty darn happy.
    “Free Mark Ronson!”
