Bootleg Lineage of December 17, 1981 Duran Duran Gig at Hammersmith Odeon
Courtesy of Gimme a Wristband reader Derek, creator of the Duran Duran in Review Podcast
- Performance takes place at London’s Hammersmith Odeon on December 17, 1981
- The show is recorded by the BBC for a live broadcast. Masters exist as reel to reel and vinyl. the UK version includes Sound of Thunder.
- The BBC recording is then farmed out to the USA. in the US version there is no Sound of Thunder and there is additional talking by the us announcer. This version may also exist as a reel to reel master as well as vinyl.
- This did not become a bootleg until the ligitamate UK and US radio versions were out. The masters of all the bootlegs are based on those recordings. The worst sounding copy is the picture disc, LIVE AT ODEON. This appears to have becomes the de-facto master subsequent bootlegs, which suffer from the same sound.
- The original BBC recording is TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES #328 (label and track sheet scans available upon request)Only recently has a full version surfaced with decent sound. This includes Sound of Thunder.
- Earlier this year, EMI released the full version with an extra version of Planet Earth at the end.
