UPDATE: It appears that Andy Taylor was mistaken. This recording is without a doubt the BBC December 11, 1981 show at Hammersmith Odeon, available as a download from Amazon. It’s still a great show, and Andy is still amazing for wanting to share a treasure… but it’s definitely NOT the show from Long Island.

Andy Taylor announced today via facebook that he has uncovered a cassette recording of the first Duran Duran concert in the United States at the Spit Club on Sept 16th 1981. After finding all “the bits and gear and wires” to complete the transfer, Andy is delighting fans by streaming three songs from the show on ReverbNation, with more songs to follow.

    Cheers, Andy!

  • I listened to the first three songs he put up, and I’ve actually got a bootleg of most, if not all, of that show — and slightly better audio quality (basically without the tape glitches). Can’t remember the name of the bootleg offhand. I’m not sure I was aware that the recording was from their first U.S. show. I don’t think I had information that specific.

Anyway, I love those early performances. If I could go back in time for one concert, it would be one of Duran Duran’s early shows when they were playing tracks from their first album plus the early B-sides.

  • Nathan, can I get in that time machine with you? I guess we know what show this is now :)

  • Andy did for the sake of the fans. He raised some very valid questions about the source EMI used to release said audio publicly for a price. I find it intriguing indeed. He cares dearly about the fans and that means plenty to me.

    Cheers Andy…..thanks for the care.

    :)
